Do all things for the sake of a higher power

“Do all things for the sake of a higher power, and it will correctly guide your every step.”

Quoting a text, Richard Rose gave this advice to a friend on how to get over various problems of adversities that one might encounter when undertaking a pursuit. It is helpful to read the complete letter, dated January 1990, here: https://tatfoundation.org/tat-forum-archives/forum2022-05.htm#6

The 12-step programs invite us to work with a higher power of our understanding. It doesn’t have to be the traditional idea for Christian God. Some use their 12-step groups as their higher power. Some use their friends and support systems. Some use nature. Naturally it has to be a power that we love, a value we set beyond our individual concerns and hubristic pride. What is your higher power?

The challenge for me is to remember this higher power in my every day activities. I am often too caught up in my self-concerned anxieties to live for a higher power, a higher value.

Rose continues with this remarkable statement: “There is a god within every man… that finds his contact with the chief Engineer of this scenario… the Absolute God that has everything planned or is able to at least enable us to see that everything is for the best. And the best includes eternal contentment at the cost of momentary inconvenience.”1

There is a god within every person. What does he mean by that? Do you find that true?
